Living Protected (Proverbs part 6)

As human beings, we have the desire inside of us to protect and be protected… To defend and be defended. Feeling protected is something that brings security. Being defended is something that makes us feel loved.

All too often we want to protect ourselves instead of allowing God to protect us. We go to extremes trying to ensure our safety on this earth. In our own efforts, we try to protect ourselves through methods of the flesh, but when it comes to protecting spiritual things, it just doesn’t work the same way. It is not the same economy.

When the disciples locked the door to the room they were in, because they were in fear, Jesus appeared to them in their midst! Their door did not hold Him back! When we try to protect ourselves with worldly things, it will not protect us spiritually. There is a protection that we feel from The Lord, but He is much more concerned with our spiritual status than He is our physical status and comfort. So, we not only have to think about the things of the world and protecting our flesh, but we have to think in the spiritual rhelm and how we accept God’s protection over us. If we try to battle the forces of darkness with our flesh, we will not win. It is only by the power of our salvation and the assignment of the Holy Spirit that we will win.

God’s desire is to protect and defend us. The assignment of the Holy Spirit is to bring peace, protection, fellowship and defense against whatever the enemy has plotted and planned against you. It may seem like you are fighting your battle alone, but you’re not! The power of the Holy Spirit has been assigned to fight this battle with you and for you! We can never achieve that power through our own strength.

Satan’s biggest trick is to keep us isolated and to keep us quiet, so that we don’t say out loud, the things that He whispers to us in the dark. Bring it to the light and rely on the assignment of the Holy Spirit. Relent to it and know that you are covered, protected and defended. Not as the world sees it, but as God sees it.

Proverbs 2:11 – *Discretion will guard you. Understanding will watch over you.

*Discretion- freedom to decide what to do in a situation

The Hebrew word for discretion is “mesimmah” meaning “power of devising a purpose”.

What is our power of devising a purpose?

Our salvation! The very wisdom that is given to us when we accept Jesus.

  • My salvation is my DEFENSE… my helmet! It allows me to know what to do and how to navigate. It is the power to decide to follow my Godly purpose. It is my practical morality code. It is the principles that I live by because I am a child of God.

Ephesians 6:11-17– Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore, take up the FULL ARMMOR OF GOD, so that you will be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm. Stand firm therefore, HAVING GIRDED YOUR LOINS WITH TRUTH, and HAVING PUT ON THE BREASTPLATE OF RIGHTEOUSNESS, and having SHOD YOUR FEET WITH THE PREPARATION OF THE GOSPEL OF PEACE; in addition to all, TAKING UP THE SHIELD OF FAITH with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. And TAKE THE HELMET OF SALVATION, and the SWORD OF THE SPIRIT, which is the word of God.

  • Our salvation will guard us! It will protect us. It protects my mind because I know the truth. (What God says-His word-His wisdom) The enemy speaks lies. He pushes and puts down. Our God, who loves us, speaks truth. He leads and lifts us up!

  • Do what wisdom says and YOU WILL BE DEFENDED by the almighty God, who has set a shield around those who walk in integrity! It is a PROMISE! (Proverbs 2:7)

  • The Holy Spirit is my PROTECTION… watching over me, guiding me and giving me clarity in the “how”.

  • What does He deliver us from?

  • Let’s look at the next few verses:

  • Proverbs 2:12-15 – To deliver you from the way of evil, From the man who speaks perverse things; From those who leave the paths of uprightness To walk in the ways of darkness; Who delight in doing evil And rejoice in the perversity of evil; Whose paths are crooked, And who are devious in their ways;

    1. The way of evil – This is the temptations that lead us into destruction. The enemy has one plan and it is to destroy you!

The man who speaks perverse things – This is a person who behaves in a way that is unreasonable or unacceptable.

Those who leave Gods path and walk in darkness – These are people who know the truth, but choose the absence of light and life. Their presence negatively effects the people around them.

Those who delight in doing evil and rejoice in its perversity – This is a person who shows a deliberate and obstinate desire to behave in a way that is unreasonable or unacceptable, in spite of consequences.

Those who’s path is crooked – This is a person who is untrustworthy and has chosen dishonesty as a way of life. Their way of doing things is twisted, out of shape or out of place. Their ways are warped and distorted and full of corruption. They cannot be trusted!

Those who are devious – This is a person who has skillful use of underhanded tactics to achieve goals. They are deceitful, dishonest, unethical, immoral, fraudulent and unfair. Their ways are winding and tortuous.

Do you see how the enemy can destroy? He will use any means possible. He deceives and pushes people into ways that will ultimately lead to their destruction.

We can never achieve the power and might that God intended for us to have by doing perverse, dark, evil, crooked and devious things. Those things are done with selfishness, pride and disregard for others and are not blessed.

We must trust God and His power that says…

Proverbs 2:21-22: The upright will live in the land (the place that God has prepared!). The wicked will be cut off.

He has prepared eternity for us. He desires to dwell with us. It is a secret place that only His children will experience. It is a place of light, of love and fulfillment that is free from want or need. It will be everything our heart desires and more than our minds and hearts could ever imagine or conceive! Dig into the most hidden places in your heart to where your dreams lie. He will fulfill those things. You will live your destiny in this place!

Believe and accept the one who gave His life for you, so that you could experience what God has prepared. His name is Jesus. Name above all names. The name that makes demons tremble. The name that is glory, power, honor and strength and it is all given to us… freely. All young have to do is ask.

Ask Him to show up; to reveal Himself to you. He will and He does!

Those who walk in the wisdom of their salvation and the understanding of the Holy Spirit applying the truth of God and it’s principles will be in the shadow of the almighty, under his wings… safe and secure.

    He is our DEFENDER.

    He is our PROTECTOR.
